Dissonance

Dissonance is an artistic collaboration between composer Hugh Maloney and video artist Lucy Smith-Jones.

The concept behind this piece is based on Russian formalist principles, that the meaning is conveyed through the use of montage: juxtaposing images and sequences to create a greater sense of meaning.

A selection of video clips and musical motifs are played in a random order.  No two presentations are the same.  Here are four possible combinations to give you an idea of the scope of this project.

The varying combination of sound, image and order create new meaning for the viewer.  The narrative of each presentation varies greatly, but each viewing is unified by the theme of dissonance.
